1、学校简介

学校教学严谨,管理严格,提供富有挑战性的大学预科课程以及丰富的课外项目,如社区服务、体育竞赛、视觉和表演艺术等。

杰出且经验丰富的教师采用小班教学方式,提高了对学生的关注和学生的学习效率。学生在校学习期间,都有专业的学科咨询顾问。顾问们将协助学生解决任何在学业课程、选课、大学进修甚至生活上所遇到的问题。学生的学术成就是咨询顾问的职责所在,咨询顾问会以学生的意愿及学术表现作为基准,帮助学生做出最佳的大学进修规划,并和学生一起参与申请大学的整个过程。

FSHA supports an atmosphere where cultural, ethnic and economic diversity are prized, where academic challenge is expected, and where the Dominican philosophy governing the Catholic education is lived, a philosophy that recognizes the intrinsic worth of each person. The school has not wavered in its commitment to values, women’s dignity and equality, cultural diversity, or to single-gender college preparatory education. This unique balance of academic excellence and moral integrity is the foundation of "the Flintridge experience."

Academic excellence is the core of FSHA, and the school’s broad curriculum prepares graduates well for their journey into higher education.

As with virtually all FSHA alumnae, 100% of the Class of 2013 are attending college. These talented young women were the recipients of many academic, athletic and leadership scholarships at a variety of universities and colleges throughout the country.

Students at each grade level participate in spiritual retreats led by adult and trained peer counselors, and include one- and two-day retreats for underclasswomen, a four-day retreat to Catalina Island for juniors, and two days of prayer and a four-day Kairos retreat for seniors.

Students are trained as peer leaders in the Campus Ministry Leadership Team, as Journey leaders and as Kairos leaders, all of whom help lead retreats.

The visual and performing arts program has, from the school’s inception, always been a vital part of the FSHA curriculum. In addition to being able to select from a wide variety of arts classes, students present a full-scale musical production each year, plus a drama or comedy on the alternate semester.

Members of the school’s dance companies, and participants in all dance classes, stage a dance concert in the spring of each year, featuring FSHA dancers and student choreography. Dance students also perform in the annual musical.

Four musical recitals are held each year to showcase piano, chamber music, orchestra, advanced music and the contemporary band. Student musicians may also play for school liturgies, the student musical and at graduation.

Art students display their work at the annual art show while also contributing their talents by helping produce backdrops for theatrical productions and illustrating the school’s literary magazine.

The Academy believes that the opportunity for participation in selected athletic activities is a vital part of the educational experience.

Freshmen must take a full year of Physical Education/Health, but all students are encouraged to try out for a team. Consistently, well over 70% of the student body in any given year participates in athletics.

Clubs are busy. Time is set aside each week for members to meet and plan activities.

FSHA is home to approximately 60 boarding students, many of whom are international students who travel a considerable distance to attend. All boarding students will find a safe, structured, nurturing and caring environment that provides a truly global learning experience that contributes to the character of the school.

Weekend life in the boarding halls is bustling! FSHA is close to Pasadena, which boasts many excellent retail stores, restaurants and movie theaters, as well as museums and cultural landmarks. The activities director plans a special monthly activity, ranging from visiting local ski resorts, enjoying some of Southern California’s finest beaches, shopping at the outlets in the desert city of Palm Springs or having fun at a nearby amusement park, such as Disneyland, Universal Studios, Knott"s Berry Farm or Magic Mountain.

The Director of Boarding Students and supervisors live with the students in the boarding halls and ensure that school attendance, meal times, study hours and curfews are followed. Dominican Sisters reside in the same building and interact with the students daily.

Approximately 25% of the Academy’s student body receives some form of scholarship or financial aid. During the 2011-12 academic year, close to $700,000 was awarded in financial aid to qualified students.

Additionally, between four and six incoming freshmen who demonstrate outstanding achievement in academics, entrance exam results, co-curricular activities, service to school and community, and based on teacher/principal recommendations receive merit scholarships ranging from $2,000 to $8,000.

The original mission-style buildings, which were designed in 1927 by noted Southern California architect Myron Hunt, overlook the San Gabriel Valley and the Pasadena Rose Bowl from the crest of the San Rafael hills.
